I've been doing fencing for three months and I love it. I will share what this sport is and why you should try it.
Fencing is a sport where you fight with swords! But it’s not as simple as that. There are three kinds of fencing weapons: épée, foil and sabre. Épée is a heavier sword with a bell guard that covers your whole hand. In épée, you can hit your opponent anywhere on the body. On the other hand, foil uses a lighter, smaller bell guard, and you can only hit your opponent on the neck or torso. In sabre, you actually slash your opponent with the sword anywhere other than the legs.
You may be wondering what fencing practices are like. Every practice starts with warm-ups such as jogs and skipping. When you start fencing, you won’t start bouts for a couple of weeks. You’ll slowly learn about fencing techniques, including how to lunge and parry. Eventually, you’ll get to compete with other kids, and even go to competitions!
There are many reasons why I recommend fencing. First, if you don’t like team sports, fencing is great because you only rely on yourself. Second, it teaches you mental focus and hand-eyecoordination. Finally, it is just super fun! I hope you learned something about fencing and you’ll try it out soon.
