Do you like Christmas lights? In Winterhaven they have plenty of Christmas lights. Winterhaven is in Tucson. The Winterhaven Festival of Lights runs Dec. 14–28 this year. The hours are 6–10 p.m.
Did you know a guy named C. B. Richards started the first ever Winterhaven Festival 75 years ago in 1949 and he put the first Christmas lights in Winterhaven? He also bought the first Christmas tree in Winterhaven and set up electrical boxes by himself. Richards was inspired to create Winterhaven after he had visited a neighborhood in California that wasvery decorated for the holidays.
This year Winterhaven celebrates its Diamond Anniversary. The Winterhaven Festival of Lights is a free event, but they do ask that you bring non-perishable food items for the Community Food Bank.
Almost all of the houses in Winterhaven decorate for the festival and some of them are themed with cartoon characters, movies and other holiday displays. There is also coffee, tea, and hot cocoa that you can buy while you are walking through the displays. There are a ton of big Christmas trees too!! Your furry friends can come too but they need to be on a leash.
Winterhaven is near the intersection of Ft. Lowell and Country Club Roads. Visit www.winterhavenfestival.org for more information on what to see and do at Winterhaven. I hope you can come to Winterhaven this year!!!
