Have you ever wanted to be an artist? There’s a local painter named Joe Pagac who has many murals around Tucson. Pagac has painted murals in such far away places as India, too!
Pagac has made hundreds of murals over the years. He comes from a long line of artists. He attended Sam Hughes Elementary and eventually the University of Arizona. He began painting when he was about 16 when he painted a mural in his bedroom. During college, art professor Sheila Pitt inspired him to pursue painting. After college, Pagac began working as a painter.
Pagac has painted large murals in front of a stage with about a thousand people watching him. His smallest painting was on a quarter. He told me he used a very, very tiny brush!
You can see Joe’s work all over Tucson. One of his most famous local murals is called Sky Islands. There are two whales flying in the sky. You can see it on the corner of Grant and Campbell Avenue.
Pagac loves to paint animals! So if you are driving around Tucson, you can enjoy Pagac’s artwork for free! You don’t need to go into an art gallery to see it.
