LEARN MUSIC WITH STRING PROJECT

Do you know how to play a musical instrument? The UofA offers classes for children from 6 to 16 years old. It is called String Project.

I interviewed the program director, Kelsey Nussbaum. She told me String Project started at the UofA in 2000. University students teach lessons, both individual lessons and group classes, that last a semester. Students show their learning at a recital. Right now, the program has about 60 students in four different levels.

Nussbaum says, “I love String Project for the fact that it not only gives youth the opportunity to get to practice more, but it also means that there are more people in the world who are better at teaching strings. If we want to continue having kids playing these instruments, then you have to have people who are really passionate about teaching them.” Nussbaum recommends this program because it gives children the chance to learn how to play a musical instrument, which is really important in everybody’s life.

I joined String Project about three years ago. It gave me the opportunity to learn to play violin. The teachers really help you and the classes are fun. If you would like to join, the next semester will start this September. Visit stringproject.music.arizona.edu.
