PONDER POISON POWER AT AZ SCIENCE CENTER

There’s a great, new exhibit at the Arizona Science Center, all about poison and venom. On the third floor of the center, you will find an area all about the history, the different kinds, antidotes, and how to find different poisons and venoms. Though, at a first thought, you might not expect it to be the best thing to bring your kid to, but you’d be surprised by how fun it can be to learn about poison.

What can you expect to find? Well, when you first walk in, you’ll be caught in a beautifully realistic rainforest with spiders, ants, snakes, and even butterflies on each side. All of the animals look almost real, like they could jump out at you. You’ll read about where they’re found and how common they are in the wild.

After that, you’ll be greeted with Greek myths and books, bits of Roman and Chinese history, and a video all about the exhibit. It also teaches about the difference between poison and venom, one coming from animals and the other from, well, everything else. The best part, without debate, is definitely the wall with examples of poison in popular and ancient literature. From Harry Potter to ancient myths, it has it all.

Then there’s the life size areas. The first thing you’ll see is historical and literary figures, all of them either people who were poisoned, or poisoned someone. From Emperor Nero of the Roman Empire, to Sherlock Holmes, you can find someone from almost everywhere there. Then, you’ll go into a couple more displays with even more interesting information. Then, sadly, the exhibit ends. It’s really a great opportunity to learn about different poisons and venoms.
