The holidays are a great time to get together with family and watch a classic holiday movie, or see a brand new film that may turn into a future family favorite. There are a lot of heart-warming, fantasy-inspired and majestic movies coming to cinemas in the coming months. So gather your family and friends, grab some popcorn, and enjoy!
Will you be seeing green this holiday season? The much anticipated story of the witches of Oz, “Wicked,” will be flying into movie theaters later this month. You don’t need a crystal ball to predict that this movie may end up defying gravity at the box office. Green will be everywhere—but if red is more your color, EMBARK on an adventure to rescue Santa in “Red One.”
“Wicked” is not the only musical arriving in November. If you want songs and adventure on the South Seas, “Moana 2” sails into cinemas just before Thanksgiving. Another star-powered Disney sequel will hit screens in December, when “Mustafa: The Lion King” is set to let loose a mighty roar!
There will also be plenty of tales (and tails) coming to the cinema in December and January. Animated animals abound, and are sure to bring smiles, thrills and laughs to movie fans.

Jason Sudeikis, best known as the moustache sporting, cheerful coach from “Ted Lasso,” voices a bounty hunter pig in the movie “Hitpig!” He is in pursuit of a pachyderm named Pickles. The entertaining elephant has escaped her Vegas act. When you’re on the lam, they call the ham—Hitpig!
Lost on a Mountain in Maine Nov 1 • PG
Based on a book and inspired by a true story, this movie shows what happens when a 12-year-old is separated from his family by a catastrophic weather event. He ends up “Lost on a Mountain in Maine,” and must survive on his own.
A Sudden Case of Christmas Nov. 8 (limited release)
When 10-year-old Claire finds out that her parents are separating, she concocts a plan to keep them together. “A Sudden Case of Christmas” has the young protagonist gathering her entire family for a Christmas celebration in the summer. She hopes her holiday hijinks will result in a happily-ever-after ending.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever Nov. 8 • PG
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” tells the story of the six surly Herdman sibs, who seem destined to wreak havoc on their town’s local holiday festivities. The movie is based on the 1972 book by Barbara Robinson. Will the horrible Herdmans destroy the pageant, or will a Christmas miracle occur?
Red One Nov. 15 • PG-13
What’s will happen when Santa Claus is kidnapped? Polar opposites must learn to work together to find the jolly old elf in “Red One.” Chris Evans sheds his squeaky-clean, Captain America persona to play a naughty-lister in this holiday action-adventure comedy. Evans plays Jack, an infamous bounty hunter. Jack is enlisted to help the head of North Pole security, played by Dwayne Johnson. The two must embark on a mission to rescue Santa and save Christmas!
Wicked Nov. 22 • PG
The smash Broadway musical becomes a magical movie event. The fantasy land of Oz is so big, bold and colorful in this rendition, it does not fit into one movie. “Wicked” is chapter one of the story—expect part two next year. The movie explores the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda. Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and pop star Ariana Grande (Glinda) are receiving rave reviews from advance audiences. So, fly! Fly, my pretties, into theaters for this musical extravaganza!
Moana 2 Nov. 27 • PG
Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho return as the voices of Maui and Moana in the song-filled sequel, “Moana 2.” When Moana is called by her wayfinding ancestors, she heads into dangerous waters and sets sail on a new adventure.
Flow Dec. 6 • PG
This fall, follow a feline facing a catastrophic flood in the film “Flow.” This lauded animated movie features a cat, a capybara, a lemur, a bird and a dog. The boat-bound bevy of beasts must learn to cooperate to survive a flood. “Flow” shares its poignant tale through dazzling visual storytelling. It evokes emotion and empathy without words. The movie’s gorgeous graphics have delighted film festival audiences this year, and soon you can get into the flow, too.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Dec. 13 • PG-13
A return to Middle-earth is told with an anime twist in “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.” The story takes place about a hundred years before the War of the Ring, when a different enemy threatened the horse lords of Rohan.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 • Dec. 20
Sonic, Knuckles and Tails face a dark threat—a mysterious hedgehog named Shadow. Can Team Sonic prevail? “Sonic The Hedgehog 3” is based on the Sega video games. The battle to protect the planet sees the return of another ferocious, but funny foe and calls for an unlikely alliance. Jim Carrey returns as Dr. Robotnik.
Mufasa: The Lion King Dec. 20 • PG
In a return to the savanna saga, “Mufasa: The Lion King,” looks back at the humble beginnings of Simba’s sire. Moviegoers will get the origin story of the mighty king, Mufasa, looking back to when he was just an orphan cub.
Paddington in Peru Jan. 17 • PG
The lovable, marmalade-loving bear departs on a new adventure in “Paddington in Peru.” Things go AWRY when the soft-spoken ursine goes to South America to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy.
Dog Man Jan. 31 • PG
When an officer and his police dog are gravely injured, the surgeons have a wild idea to save them. So a new hero is born! “Dog Man” tells the outrageous story of a canine cop who must defeat bad guys, including the villainous Petey the Cat. Based on the best-selling books by Dav Pilkey, “Dog Man” is sure to fetch a lot of laughs!
