Phoenix Fan Fusion Has Something for Everyone!
by Young Reporter Georgiana Readhead
Searching for a fun family event? Look no further than Phoenix Fan Fusion! Running May 24–26 at the Phoenix Convention Center, Fan Fusion is every comic book, show, fandom, and activity you have ever seen rolled into one EPIC multi-day event.
Packed with over 1,000 hours of content, there is something for everyone at Fan Fusion. You can choose to dress up in costume or go in regular clothes and check out how others are dressed. This year, the Youth and Family events are better than ever! With classes, competitions, different fandoms, workshops, games, and so much more, you’ll have to plan ahead to catch everything you love.
During an interview with Mac MacKellar, Director of Events and Activities, and Jill Oliver, Youth and Family Content Producer, both enthusiastically emphasized that almost everyone will find something they love at Fan Fusion. Past events have included everything from a live alligator to a full-sized Ophelia Hall window from the show “Wednesday.” You will find wrestling, masquerade contests and more at this year’s event.
In the Exhibit Hall & Hall of Heroes you can find over 600 vendors, creators, artists, actors, authors, creators, celebrities and guests. Prepare yourself to meet some of your favorite heroes including Adam Savage from Mythbusters, Alan Tudyk who voiced Hei Hei in “Moana,” Deborah Estelle Philips who played Power Ranger Katie Walker, and Shameik Moore who voiced Miles Morales in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”
One big addition to the 2024 Phoenix Fan Fusion is the expansion of wrestling. The Wrestling Ring will be in room 105. After seeing the reaction to wrestling at the 2023 Fan Fusion, the staff knew to expand this area.
“I’m super excited for our expanded wrestling content,” says MacKellar. “Last year, we had wrestling for one day and it was a renowned success.” This year, the strongmen from Slam U will have multiple sessions a day for all three days with interactive discussions, lessons, tournaments and classes.
MacKellar wants people to know how incredible this event is. He says he wishes more people knew that there is truly something for everybody at Fan Fusion!
“Too often, people go, ‘Oh, yeah, that is [the] comic book convention. I don’t like comic books, I don’t read comic books, I don’t need to go to that.’ There is probably nothing further from the truth. Our event has something for everyone,” says MacKellar. Whatever your fandom may be, there is a jaw-dropping show in store for you at Fan Fusion.
Fan Fusion will be packed, so make sure to get your tickets ASAP! You can find information on schedules and admission at FanFusion.com. There are multiple options for passes to best fit your schedule.
This year, Fan Fusion is adding an events app which you can find at the website. This app will help you find events and activities of interest to plan your day at Fan Fusion. The schedule is ever-changing and rapidly growing, so MacKellar and Oliver encourage you to keep checking back in order to not miss a thing!
