This issue offers a wide variety of fun and informative features and news. And this month’s theme focuses on recycling and how young people can help the planet.


For aspiring young writers in the Valley—Bear is partnering with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism for the annual Young Reporters Workshop! It’s Saturday, Jan. 27 at the school’s TV studios downtown and runs from 10:30–2:30 and includes the training you need to start reporting for Bear Essential News plus a pizza lunch! Mark Lodato, associate dean of the Cronkite School, is giving the keynote address, and former New York Times Bureau Chief for Phoenix, Fernanda Santos, will teach one of the mini-workshops! Teachers or parents need to call toll free: 1-866-NEWS KID to reserve space for attendees.


The monthly Young Reporters Night meeting in Tucson is early this month! month, it’s Thursday, Dec. 14 at Bookmans, 6230 E. Speedway Blvd from 5 p.m. till 6 p.m. If you’ve written a news story, bring in a hard copy closer to 4:30 to go over it with an editor!
