Teacher Work Sheets for October 2019

Fall has arrived!

And Bear Essential News has a lot to offer kids and classrooms!

For Halloween, check out our fact-filled feature “Bloodsuckers”—animals that rely on the red stuff for nourishment or to develop or reproduce.

The new standards-based worksheets for October are available online. Teachers can sign up for worksheet notifications through the website: Sign up here

To help encourage students in grades 3 thru 8 to join the free Young Reporters Program, we have our awesome annual Young Reporters Workshop for Southern Arizona students on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, Oct. 26 at KVOA-TV. Teachers can have up to 20 of their students attend, but the teacher or parents need to call 520-792-9930 to reserve spots for their students. Participants should bring in their completed Sign-up Form to be entered into the prize drawing. For lunch, we’ll be serving up pizza from Pizza Hut!

The Phoenix Workshop with ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism took place last month and went really well. Students can still join the program by mailing in their completed Sign-up Form to our office, and we’ll mail out an official Young Reporters Kit, which has everything you need to get started! Teachers can send in multiple Sign-up Forms, and we’ll send a box of the YR Kits to your school.

And there’s a ton of fun the day after the Tucson Young Reporters Workshop! On Sunday, Oct. 27, kids (and parents, too) can dress up for Halloween and head to the Be Kind Halloween Bash starting at 4 p.m. at Trail Dust Town and Golf N’ Stuff. Games, entertainment, trick-or-treating and a free costume contest! For extra fun, you can purchase a $12 wristband for rides and shows to benefit Ben’s Bells, the non-profit that promotes kindness in the schools and in our community.

This literacy award-winning program and these worksheets are brought to you by the 501(c)(3) non-profit Bear Essential Educational Services.

See you at the workshop!
