BOOK TEACHES ABOUT DIFFERENCES

“Wonder” was written and illustrated by R. J. Palacio. It is a realistic fiction book that I think all kids grades 3 and up should read. The book is about a boy named Auggie Pullman who was born with a facial difference. Auggie has been homeschooled his whole life, but finally in the fifth grade he attends a public school named Beecher Prep.

The whole story is based on the individualized perspectives of Auggie. The reason I feel everyone should read this book is because it shows the truth about how it is when someone has something different about them that sets them apart from everybody else. It teaches how to act around people who are different, especially in elementary and middle school when bullying can happen to students.

“Wonder” is not just a book for kids, but also for adults and any bookworm. The book is funny, but has sad moments too. The story is realistic and at times I felt I was right there with Auggie. The book brought up emotions in me like anger, sadness and happiness. “Wonder” has won many awards and was #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. The book has sold over 15 million copies worldwide.
