I recently got the opportunity to volunteer at a nonprofit organization called WeCareTucson. WeCareTucson refurbishes donations of old electronics and medical equipment to donate to needy people in the Tucson community.
I interviewed Walter Ram, a veteran of the U.S Army Air Corps in World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Ram spent part of the war as a POW (prisoner of war) in the infamous Nazi prison camp, Stalag 17.
In December, my family and I went on a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. We stayed at Caesars Palace Hotel and ate at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants. Ramsay is a world-renowned chef who currently holds 16 Michelin stars. We ate at Gordon Ramsay Burger, Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay’s Steak and Gordon Ramsay Pub and Grill.
“Minecraft: Mob Squad,” written by Delilah S. Dawson, is a Minecraft novel about a group of friends who try to save their town from monsters. What I like about this book is that it describes some of the troubles that I have while playing Minecraft. Also, it talks about friendships and how friends help each other out, even in the direst of situations. It can teach the reader that no matter how dangerous the situation is, friends should always help each other out.
“Cleo,” written by author Helen Brown, is an emotional memoir about how a cat mends a family after tragedy strikes. It takes place in New Zealand in the early 1980s, then it slowly goes into the early 21st century.
What I like about this book is that different parts talk about the cute activities that the cat does. It reminds me of the different adorable things that my cat does.

My family recently went to Golf N’ Stuff and I interviewed Taylor Nelson, the Director of Sales for Golf N’ Stuff. She has been working at Golf N’ Stuff since 2016 when she first worked as a cashier.
Since COVID began, Nelson helps schedule outside birthday parties. We talked about the history of Golf N’ Stuff and COVID safety guidelines. There are three locations for Golf N’ Stuff: One in Tucson and two locations in Ventura and Norwalk in California. In fact, the original Karate Kid movie used the Golf N’ Stuff arcade as a movie set in Norwalk.
Did you know that Legoland wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the poinsettiaplant? A poinsettia plant is a small Mexican shrub with large scarlet bracts. Poinsettia plants are native to Mexico and Central America where they grow in moist, wet, wooded ravines and on rocky hillsides. In 2002, Congress passed an act that made Dec. 12 National Poinsettia Day. That date was chosen because it was the day Joel Roberts Poinsett died.
On May 17, I attended the dedication ceremony for the new H.S. Lopez Family Foundation Center of Opportunity, to be run by Gospel Rescue Mission. It will be a one-stop source of shelter and services for the homeless and needy of Tucson. The idea behind the center is to provide the needy with all services they will need to get back on their feet while they are “home.”
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, and Humberto and Czarina Lopez were some of the guest speakers at the ceremony. I had a chance to interview some of them, including the governor.
