Boomer Bear,
I like the part in the paper where
you help kids when they have
problems. Some kids need help BIG
TIME!
Your fan, C.K.
Dear Boomer,
I like to look at the inside (of your
newspaper). You have good info and
fun games to play!
from L.C.
Dear C.K. and L.C.,
I love writing to kids in this
advice column, “Letters to
Boomer.” Some of them may have
had a rough day; others want to
know how they can make a
difference in their community or
even the world. Kids also can go
online and post their thoughts on
my blog at BearEssentialNews.com.
Of course, I like getting positive
feedback on my newspaper, too! I’m
glad you enjoy Bear Essential News
so much.

Dear Boomer,
I’m really sad about the kids
in Haiti and Chile. I want to
help, but I don’t know what to
do? Have any ideas?
—Helpful Hints
Dear H.H.,
While the terrible earthquakes in
Haiti and Chile happened months
ago, people in those countries are
still struggling—including lots of
kids.
I’m glad that young people like
you haven’t forgotten to help. Once
the headlines about a disaster end,
folks tend to forget about the
problem. The damage done to Haiti
and Chile will take years to fix.
I hear that donating money gives
relief agencies the most flexibility.
Talk to your parents or launch a
fund-raiser at your school.

Dear Boomer,
I’ve been thinking of becoming a
Young Reporter, but I don’t know
what to write—maybe a news story
about some things that happened
around town. Can you help me figure
out something?
Thanks, H.J.
Dear H.J.,
Figuring out what to write about
is the toughest part about being a
Young Reporter.
Start with something that
interests you. Maybe you’re into
karate, scouts or chess. If you find
your topic interesting, chances are
your readers will want to learn
about it!
Also, keep an eye on the news to
see if there’s a good kid angle to a
story. And at school, look around
for things like canned food drives,
special events or inspiring students
or teachers.
To be a Young Reporter, check
out the main feature on pages 16
and 17. You also can write for the
Arizona Daily Star or even be on TV
with KVOA-4.

Dear Boomer,
I was wondering what’s your
favorite part of Bear Essential News
for Kids? I was also wondering when
you’ll post the winners for the SEA
LIFE Arizona Aquarium poster
contest?
Your friend, OceanSun13
Dear OceanSun13,
While I like writing “Letters to
Boomer” and doing the blog thing,
my favorite features are the
incredible front cover seek ’n finds
and “News Highlights” (on page 5).
We received hundreds of posters, and
the winners are on our website
BearEssentialNews.com. Just click on
“Cyber Artists, Kids Gallery” on my
home page.
Enjoy!

Dear Boomer,
I know this person. I want to
learn more about him, but I’m too
scared to talk to him. What should
I do?
—B.W.
Dear B.W.,
If you want to meet this guy,
you’re gonna need to overcome
your shyness! You’re a nice,
sensitive person, so just be
yourself around him. (Easier said
than done, right?)
Best of luck,
Boomer Bear
