One certainty this week is that this is hottest its felt in quite some time, if not ever. 

Visions of the Borderlands, an exhibition at the Special Collections at the University of Arizona Libraries, aims to uncover and debunk these various realities and myths of the American West and U.S.-Mexico region. Visit the curated collections of true depictions of what living in the desert was like. Be sure to get by Friday, June 30, for the exhibits last day!

Visions of the Borderlands

Visit the University of Arizona's Special Collections this week for a trip back through time and learn more about the cultures that have long existed on the U.S.-Mexico borderlands long before the city of Tucson became the metropolitan that it is today. The curated exhibit aims to debunk and explore the myths and realities of the famed American West.

Tucson Kidsfest

  • Where: Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave.

  • Cost: GA: Kids, ages 2 and under are FREE, ages 3-17, $15. Adults, $12. Military & 1st Responder Discount: $10 each for kids or adults, available only at Box Office.

Time to burn off all that energy spent cooped-up sheltered from this past week's heat! A day of unparelled amusement awaits everyone as the TCC is transformed into a kids paradise featuring inflatables, rides, half-pipe exhibitions and even compete in gameshow activites hosted by special guests Debby Ryan and Peyton List of the Disney channel.

Last Sundays at MOCA 

  • Where: Museum of Contemporary Art - Tucson, 265 S. Church Ave.

Stay out of the fray while the kids are at play across the way at MOCA Tucson. 

The last sunday every month is FREE all day at the museum. Stroll along the four new exhibtions which were installed earlier this month. Escape for a few serene hours to immerse yourself in Tucson emerging art's scene.

3D printing is expected to boom within the coming years not only within STEM but careers across the board.  Presented by Xerocraft, this basic class is intended for older kids and teens. Learn about needed skills, technology and uses of 3D printing.

Come celebrate International Asteroid Day at the UA Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium on Tuesday. Share in the marvel of these celestial bodies throughout the night. Hear presentations and parttake in discussions from leading UA researchers, lead by one of the "Meteorite Men" and meteorite hunter Geoff Notkin.

Zoo to You!

Animal experts and ambassadors are bringing the Zoo to you! As Reid Park Zoo itself closes early for the scorching sunny afternoons, learn about your favorite animals for an afternoon within the comfort of your local library. You might even get a chance close encounter! 

Due to demand there is limited seating available. To attend obtain a program pass from the library front desk 30 minutes prior to class.

Dry Ice Experience

  • Where: Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave.

If Tucson's dry heat has got you beat then consider dry ice the perfect treat.

Lasers? Fog machine? No, its not a concert but CO2 like you've never seen it before. Chill out for an hour and go hands on with dry ice bubbles demonstration! 

Whimsical Wednesdays! Astronomy Around the World

  • Where: Himmel Park Library, 1035 N. Treat Ave.
  • When: 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Cost: FREE

Go under the stars like never before by spend the hour inside the Portable Planetarium and gaze upon starry skies. 

This experience will have you crawling back for more adventures! From the ceiling of this inflatable planetarium you'll be able to look at the collections of constellations of different cultures worldwide and throughout history.

    First Saturday Concerts

    • When: starting at 6 p.m.
    • Cost: $7 park entrance fee per vehicle

    Kick off July with an concert at Catalina State Park! 

    Load up the car with some snacks and the family for a rockin' night with Jimmy and the Jitterbugs. They will be throwing back smooth oldies starting at 6 p.m. 

    Come by earlier to hike park and be sure to sway along a stellar sunset with classic summer tunes late in the day!
