Voyaging from the depths of the sea to desert of the Old Pueblo, the Mermaids have returned for this year's monsoon celebration and parade!
On Saturday, Aug. 12, the whole family can dive into a day filled with under-the-water themed activities. Starting at 10 a.m., come out flapping in your finest fish tails with select Fourth Avenue and Downtown Tucson area merchants as they'll be shelling out deals throughout the day's festivites. In addition, everyone can enjoy entertainment across the adjacent districts, including live music and performances, raffles, photo booths, face painting, themed art, mermaid meet-and-greets and much more!
Get ready by 8 p.m. for a mermaid parade! Embarking from Haggerty Plaza on Fourth Ave., the sirens of sea will be "swimming" through Downtown Tucson to The Beach at 50 N. 5th Ave. This event will feature a mermaid marketplace with vendors, food trucks and DJ's spinning music to keep you moving throughout the night. The seeds are ready to be sown! Come celebrate the sprouting of the El Río Seed Library with an afternoon kickoff party.
All afternoon, anyone can now check out up to 10 seed packets from the Seed Library to help grow their own gardens. Starting at 2:30 p.m., come by for snacks and seed cleaning activities. Continue the celebration from 4:30-5:30 p.m. with a FREE writing and poetry workshop from award-winning author Mary Pellegrino.

Tucson Electric Power is celebrating 125 years of service and are inviting families in the Old Pueblo to join in on the festvities with free or low cost events on Saturdays throughout August!
Chill Out with TEP inside the cool comfort of Fox Theatre with classic cartoons for kids, from 3-6 p.m. and return by 7:30 p.m. for a screening of the 1958 movie-musical, ‘South Pacific.’
Admission is FREE and seating is at first-come, first-serve availability. Enjoy small popcorn for a celebratory $1.25 with additional concessions for purchase or shop and eat around the Downtown’s 2nd Saturday/Return of the Mermaids between showings!
